April Ross
April Ross is one of just a handful of female beach volleyball players to capture medals at many Olympics. She will be competing in Tokyo to compete for her third Olympic medal along with Alix Klineman. She is a one time Olympian. Ross's objective is her first Olympic gold medal. With her age of 39, it may be her final opportunity to claim an Olympic gold. The athlete is optimistic, however winning the gold medal is just a few steps away. If we can perform to our highest and even perform properly, I'm sure we can get that gold medal Ross declared on NBC Boston. Therefore, I'm hoping to have the chance also. Ross was born on the 22, 1982, at Costa Mesa California. She lived with her family in Costa Mesa. Ross went on to play in numerous sports as a student at Newport Harbor High School. Being a pre-athlete, she also participated in indoor track and volleyball. She was definitely a distinguished athlete when it came to the second sport. Through her high school years, she played middle blocker out setter and hitter on a volleyball court per her college bio. The honor was conferred to her by the Gatorade National Circle of Champions Player of the Year in 1999 for her achievements. She also won her the Orange County Athlete of the Year award in 2000. Although Ross and Klineman have been doing their thing from 2017 onward, the former was already a big-time star on the beach even before the pair formed. It's true that she has been a prominent player on the beach over the years. In fact, Ross took home several titles, and even one with an iconic volleyball legend. For six years from 2007 to 2013 she teamed with Jennifer Kessy who more recently worked as Klineman's coach. Along with Kessy Ross, the duo won the World Championship in 2009, while racing in the international circuit. In 2012, the duo took silver in London's Olympic Games. They were defeated for the gold by the storied team of Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh (Jennings). The fate of the matter was that Ross got Walsh Jennings' new partner after May-Treanor's retirement. In 2016, the two received bronze medals in the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. Ross was a college player for USC Trojans before making the jump to professional. She was a player in high school and before hitting the beach as a professional. Her experience at USC was impressive. It was her time to be an All-American and Pac-10 freshman of the year in 2000. Her performance also assisted in helping the Trojans to make it to their first Final Four. The second season of her career, she went through a heartbreaking personal loss and still was able to be named an All-American. The last two years within the team, she guided the Trojans up to the top of the mountain netting consecutive national championships. Individually She established her spot as a legend by winning the Honda Sports Award for 2003-04. The award went to the best female collegiate player of the year in America. Ross studied the field of international relations in USC. Sadly, Ross mom Margie didn't get to watch her daughter reach the highest levels of beach volleyball stardom. As of 2001, when Ross was in her sophomore year on the campus of USC her mother passed away from breast cancer. But, she will always hold her lost parent near and dear. Margie has always been a source of inspiration for her, in and out of the water.
